OPEN SESAME: Exercises in entrepreneurship
OPEN SESAME: Exercises in entrepreneurship is a body of work developed by artist CMP OFFICE c/o Charlotte-Maëva Perret during the Fashion Space Gallery design residency programme 2017.
Her practice is concerned with global cycles of production, precarious economies and man’s relation to materiality. In 2017 she started an on going series of ‘exercises’ that explores the myth of the individual as an entrepreneur.
The research builds on Istanbul’s historical significance as a point of trade along the Silk Road and its strategic location between the Black and Mediterranean Sea. If Turkey once played a central role in east-west cultural and economic exchange, it now acts as the World’s space of refuge.
OPEN SESAME: Exercises in entrepreneurship is in an immersive mixed media installation staging a collection of objects ‘made for survival’. Inspired by today’s Forty thieves, the project develops an allegory between Alibaba, the ancient Syrian folk tale and Chinese E-commerce company alibaba.com
